April, April, April!

I'm getting better at updating these. Not a LOT better, but better. I'm still trying to get a grasp on writing updates and writing when I actually FEEL like writing, which is fairly infrequent and is normally because I'm trying to avoid actual important work.

But, we're back either way and that's what matters. Let me hit you with an April recap!

I went home for my birthday! I escaped the drama in SC and I went home. Now, if you're keeping up, my trip home was not ideal but it was still fun either way. We'll leave it at that.

On my return to South Carolina I pretty much did a complete turn around, repacked my bags and headed to Beech Mountain, NC for my friend Sam's wedding camp/ mountain weekend. Picture fraternity mountain weekend with a bunch of strangers who are going to be in your best friend's wedding party. I'm making it sound like it was awful but it was absolutely incredible. The house was stunning, the views were better, the alcohol kept flowing (keep in mind I can finally drink again!!), and there was a HOT TUB! I spent a lot of the weekend staying up super late, making incredible memories, and forming friendships with people I didn't think I'd ever get to meet. Life is crazy like that.

Highlight? I finally became great friends with my future roommate. Turns out an abundance of sangria at a winery on rainy day makes for the best setting to form friendships. That trip was so much fun. I don't think I've ever enjoyed hours in a hot tub so much in my life.

The following weekend I headed back to Georgetown (part two!!) to hang at the cabin we visited last summer. The day prior to my visit is when I received my second COVID vaccine and I was genuinely nervous about the side effects. But I woke up feeling fine! So the trip to Georgetown was an absolute dream. This time, more friends came, more food was obtained, and I actually slept pretty well (despite my sore arm). I gained an appreciation for pickled okra this trip, along with caterpillars (they infested our island). I also learned I love Bloody Mary's there, which is crazy.

After that, I spent my last few weekends in Columbia, getting all my stuff together for the end of the semester and just praying that I managed to hold out good grades (writing this in May means I know I pulled all A's, but I did think I was going to fail journalism there for a while).

In my last few days of the month I mentally prepared myself for May, for the summer, and for next year (when all my friends leave me). But for now, I'm unreasonably happy. I'm really figuring myself out and processing my emotions, goals and hopes for this next, unpredictable year. I have high hopes that the summer will be so much fun here in Columbia, and that I do get the chance to travel a bit if COVID allows.

Point being, sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel is just the longer days and the warm weather. Other times, its people who drag you out of the tunnel through forced adventures and meal prepping. Who's to say? I just know mine has been both this past month and I couldn't be more grateful to feel hopeful about the future again.

Much to look forward to!
